How to Access SSJDA Data

Please note that the most of our datasets are provided only in Japanese. We believe, however, that the Archive is useful for comparative purposes as well as for Japan studies. Researchers without knowledge of the Japanese language are encouraged to utilize the SSJDA’s resources with the help of Japanese-speaking people.

If a discrepancy arises in interpreting the contents of the websites and related documents between Japanese and English language, the interpretation of the Japanese version shall prevail.

Information on the dataset(s) is provided in abstract (English language) and gaiyo (abstract in Japanese language) and chosa-hyo (questionnaire in Japanese language) sections. Please thoroughly review the research method and items. In order to prevent analysis based on an incorrect understanding of data, we advise you to refer to the 'Reports (Article)' of the survey displayed in the abstract or gaiyo. SSJDA maintains a collection of the 'Reports (Article)' for visitors to reference. Please contact SSJDA for assistance, if necessary.

SSJDA will review the application package for content and completeness. Please be advised that the application approval and data delivery process generally takes approximately one month (sometimes two to three months) .

5. Termination of the Permit
(One year from the Data Supply Date)

 1) Erasing the Data

Upon termination of the data access permit period, you are required to erase all the data from your computer system. The original CD-R from SSJDA shall be destroyed.

If you were unable to complete the data analysis within the one year permit period, you may apply for an extension of the permit, by submitting a new application form to SSJDA.

 2) Submitting Documents

Please submit to SSJDA the Data Use Report Form (Download), as well as copies of any documents you might have published, based on the analysis of the SSJDA data. Refer to the required number of copies (in Japanese language).
