Summary Changes in the social environment have called for a functional expansion in life insurance from the conventional death, old-age, and medical guarantee to comprehensive security of life as well as to services from the standpoint of an individual's entire life and life-style. Accordingly, the life insurance industry is expected to offer new businesses and services to the customers. This survey was conducted in order to chronologically grasp their consciousness around their relationships with life's security, life insurance, and the life insurance business as well as the actual state of such relationships. This 1998 survey is the second of a survey series which began in 1987, and has added to the original, items concerning the consciousness and actual state of comprehensive security of life and the life insurance business.
