Summary The purpose of this survey, entitled "Survey on the Actualities of Pachinko Participation, 2005," is to clarify the current situation and the future of pachinko and pachislot in order to maintain and expand the fan base that supports the pachinko/pachislot industry against the backdrop of the current harsh economic environment.

This survey aimed to deepen understanding of the mindset of accepting gambling aspect, the reasons for the increase or decrease in participation frequency, and behaviors when selecting a gaming machine, with the hope of informing future ideas to resolve issues related to pachinko parlors and game machine manufacturers.

Additionally, for the purpose of collecting data that can serve as basic information for future policymaking in the gaming industry, the survey is conducted on an annual basis and subject to chronological analysis.

Specifically, this survey characterizes the actual state of play among players and the consciousness and structure of the segment of dormant players who are not currently playing. This survey also focuses on players’ expectations and awareness of their pachinko/pachislot play, their intent to play in the future, and their reasons for not playing.

The questionnaire was conducted on a nationwide scale, and the mail survey was conducted in two stages: a [screening survey] and a [main survey]. This survey used two different questionnaire forms: a << player survey form >> and a << non-player survey form >>.

[Main survey]
A mail survey was conducted targeting all pachinko or pachislot players, dormant players who had experienced gaming in the past but were not currently playing, and some non-players who had no gaming experience at all. In addition, in the data summary and analysis, the analysis was performed by cross tabulation using respondents’ age, gender, play frequency, etc., as key data.
