Summary
|
The elderly are, on the whole, healthy, active, and financially prosperous. On the other hand, the appearance and circumstances of the elderly are diverse, encompassing many factors in daily life, including gender, health status, economic power, family structure, housing, and other individual hobbies and preferences.
In such circumstances, to properly promote measures for an aged society and build a prosperous society where the elderly can live healthy and fulfilling lives, it is important to assess current conditions related to daily life from the perspective of the elderly living everyday lives.
From this point of view, this survey aims at understanding elderly’s actual situation of and attitudes to the everyday life, starting with the conditions of daily life, levels of satisfaction with routine, and necessities of life including food, clothing, and shelter, as well as housework, going out, and daily enjoyment. Also, through chronological analysis against a previous survey (conducted in 1998), it aims to contribute to promoting measures for the aging society.
