Summary This survey was conducted to clarify social prestige and its evaluation structure. Much of the research on social prestige has focused on differences in prestige evaluations based on occupation, concentrating on the development of occupational prestige scores and their use in analysis. On the other hand, the context of Japanese labor market, which excludes nonstandard employment from various benefits, suggests the hierarchical structure of social prestige not only based on occupation but on employment status.
Given this background, "Survey on Social Prestige and Status Evaluation, 2024" was designed to examine the impact of employment status on social prestige, independent of occupation. The survey was conducted with internet monitors and included a factorial survey experiment (vignette experiment) to assess the social status of some fictitious workers. The data from this survey includes evaluations of social status, as well as survey items related to the evaluator's job, workplace, family background, and social awareness.
