Summary Major changes have taken place in women's employment in recent years. In particular, the expansion of women's paid work has been outstanding. Women's occupational careers are characteristically associated with their life stages such as graduation, marriage, childbearing, child-rearing, and children's independence. Problems of women's employment seem to emerge in various ways as they move from one state to another. This survey is part of the survey series entitled Occupational Mobility conducted since 1973, and as a women's survey, it makes a pair with the second men's survey carried out in 1981.
