Summary This is an attitudes survey conducted in August 2011 by the Meiji Yasuda Corp. Lifestyle Welfare Research Institute targeting women between the ages of 20–59. The survey is primarily concerned with attitudes toward happiness.

The main contents are as follows.

Time spent with spouse on days off, work end time, time husband comes home on work days, person to eat lunch/dinner with, number of days per week respondent eats dinner with spouse, level of satisfaction with husband, reasons of satisfaction/reasons of dissatisfaction

Thoughts on having children, desired number of children, reasons for wanting/not wanting to have children, whether child-rearing is (was) fun/why it was fun/why it was hard, things necessary for smooth parenting

- Leisure/holidays
Things respondent spends money to do on days off, things respondent spends money to do on workdays and after work, things respondent desires to enrich after-work hours, what respondent would do if he or she had a month off work

- Regarding work
Purposes of work/primary purpose, ideal workstyle for women’s life stage

- Regarding current work
Whether satisfied with current work/details, details of current work respondent is dissatisfied with, how long respondent wants to continue current work, things respondent will be dissatisfied about after retiring, reasons for not currently working, self-evaluation of own work effort (on a scale of 1–10)

- Regarding career
Whether respondent has felt she is “in a disadvantaged position compared to men” at work/details, how far respondent wants to be promoted, whether respondent wants to be a regular employee, reasons for wanting/not wanting to be a regular employee, whether respondent wants to work in the future

(5) Love/marriage
- Experiences with love/marriage
How respondent met current husband/romantic partner, whether respondent is glad she is married, reasons respondent is glad to be married/reasons respondent is not glad to be married, things respondent is currently doing/has done in the past to find someone to marry (participation in workplace events, etc./matchmaking, etc.), whether respondent has considered divorce

- Thoughts on marriage
Whether respondent thinks that women “should eventually get married,” whether respondent thinks being in love and marriage are different, whether respondent believes home should be prioritized once married, reasons for thinking “I want to get married”/reasons for not thinking “I want to get married,” whether preferring different surnames for a married couple, thoughts on a married couple being allowed to retain a different surnames, reasons a married couple retaining different surnames would be a good idea

- Thoughts on your partner
Normative consciousness about behavior of married people, what respondent seeks in an ideal romantic partner/what respondent seeks in an ideal husband

(6) Relationship with parents
Relationship with parents/husband’s parents (very good/normal, etc.), reasons relationship with parents is good (own parents/spouse’s parents), things own parents/spouse’s parents did for respondent in the last three years that made her happy, parents’ occupations when respondent was in elementary school to high school, parents’ thoughts on and approach to parenting

(7) Worries and anxieties
Current worries and future anxieties, person respondent talks to about worries, number of friends that respondent can talk about anything/their attributes

(8) Future view
Future goals, things respondent is currently doing for future goals/monthly expenses for the goal/reasons for not doing anything

(9) Health
Mental and physical health condition/reasons for responding “slightly unhealthy,” “unhealthy,” things respondent does/keeps in mind for health, regular bedtime and wake-up time

(10) Savings and preparations for the future
- Monetary preparation 
Whether respondent is preparing money for old age/the amount of money per month, thoughts on monetary preparation for old age, preparation for life in old age (other than money)
