Summary This survey was carried out for the purpose of contributing to the smooth execution of job-hunting and recruitment activities from the next academic year onward by clarifying job-hunting and recruitment selection activity awareness and behavior of students scheduled to graduate from universities in the 2016 academic year with respect to changes in the job-hunting and recruitment period (start of promotional/PR activities for employee recruitment no earlier than March 1 and start of the selection process after June 1).

Mode of Data Collection Self-administered questionnaire: Web-based (CAWI)
Approximately 60 universities throughout Japan were selected, taking into account location, founding entity, scale, etc. Fourth-year undergraduate students and second-year master’s students (early-stage doctoral students) from each university were asked to take part in the survey. Students accessed and responded to the survey questionnaire website, which was made available on the Internet. Students were made aware that medical, pharmaceutical, dentistry, nursing, and veterinary students, as well as international students, were not included in the target group for the survey.

Whether engaging in job hunting, planned path after graduating from university/graduate school, desired industry of future employer, main areas of job hunting

(2) Student’s awareness of change of the period of job-hunting activity
Level of awareness regarding change to the job-hunting and recruitment period, channels for obtaining information regarding the period change (television, recruitment company), awareness of positive effects, awareness of worries and challenges, etc.

(3) Details of job-hunting activity (period/status, state of early unofficial job offers)
Period when respondent began analysis of industry and companies, participation in company information meetings and seminars (period (first/last), peak, number of companies), submission of entry sheets (period (first/last), peak, number of companies), situation regarding taking job interviews (period (first/last), peak, number of companies interviewed with), job interview schedule with the company of the first-choice, route to recruitment examinations and interviews, etc., whether respondent has received early unofficial job offers (timing, size of the company that offered it, industry) (period, company size, industry), timing/company size/industry of the first early unofficial job offer received, size and industry of the company that respondent intends to work for, start and end period of job-hunting activity, internship experience (whether experienced, number of days, shortest/longest experience, period of participation)

(4) Relationship between job-hunting activity and academic performance, consideration by companies, etc.
State of securing time for study, whether or not respondent has submitted course history (transcript), selection process emphasizing academic performance, consideration in setting job-hunting activity schedule and time period, consideration for job-hunting activity in distant locations, job-seeking activity during “cool biz,” effect to a plan to study abroad, etc., consideration for students with experience of studying abroad, effect to scheduled teaching practicum etc., consideration for those undergoing a teaching practicum, harassment and similar behavior (existence of harassment, details, time period, person consulted)
