| Summary |
The Japanese General Social Surveys (JGSS) Project is a Japanese version of the General Social Survey (GSS) project closely replicating the original GSS of NORC, University of Chicago. It provides data for analyses of Japanese society, attitudes, and behaviors, which makes possible international comparisons. The objectives of the JGSS project are three-fold: (1) to collect and build cumulative data on general social surveys in Japan in a regular and consistent manner; thus enabling a time-series analysis; (2) to provide data for secondary analyses to researchers and university students in various social science fields; and, (3) to provide data in a format useful for international comparative studies, research and reports. |

[Tokyo (metropolitan) area] Areas were stratified into 5: residential-1(single residences), residential-2(group housing), commercial, industrial, and agricultural areas. 4 sampling points were selected from each strata to obtain a total of 20 points. [Osaka prefecture] Areas were stratified into 3: Osaka city, other than Osaka city, and town/village. A total of 20 sampling points were selected based on population ratios |
