Summary Since 1987 the Japan Institute of Life Insurance has conducted a yearly survey entitled "Security of Life and Life Insurance" for the purpose of grasping changes in the consciousness and actual state of individuals as they relate to the life insurance business. The recent changes in the socio-economic environment may have necessitated such changes, and the series is intended to capture them by chronologically assessing insurance-related consciousness and realities. This is the fourth of the series, and comes with a supplementary survey conducted later (with 1,467 effective responses from a national sample of 2,000 males and females 20 years of age or above), whose report is also contained here.
