Summary More and more small companies are establishing a production base outside Japan. In many cases, the movement involves smallest companies. And in many cases, such small companies have been incorporated into the international division of labor, which is now under formation in Asia. This survey was conducted for the objective of clarifying the current state and issues of structural changes in overseas business advancement and the agents of such advancement. It is characterized by (1) focusing on smaller companies among other small companies, (2) investigating, for a comprehensive understanding of overseas advancement, not only those with local subsidiaries but also others which have only commissioned production, and (3) providing a chronological analysis of the state of overseas advancement. An interview survey was also conducted with the questionnaire survey.
