Summary People are facing increased uncertainties about their lives in a society with more elderly people and fewer children and in an economy suffering a prolonged recession. With a strong anxiety about their future, they have begun to device various financial measures to cope with the situation. Family financing consciousness and behavior are in a period of transformation as a result of the above socio-economic trends as well as women's entrance into the social domain and individualization and diversification of life values. This survey seeks to reveal the current state of family finances which is manifested in numerous ways. It seeks to do so by grasping people's (1) family financing consciousness (in terms of, for example, worries about the external environment and prediction of family finances as they will be in the future) and (2) family financing behavior ( with respect to income, consumption, savings and investment, assets held, etc.).
