| Summary | The fundamental social systems in the Japanese society, such as continuous economic growth, stable employment and substantial welfare, are collapsing. People have designed their lives based on a monolithic model, which was created by taking the traditional and stable social systems for granted. Faced with the changes in the social systems, traditional life design, however, has been pressed to be re-constructed. One can assume that the future society would be a "frontier society" where those who have the motivation to curve a way for themselves be successful. By assuming the coming of this new society, this survey aims to discover changes in people's lives and their consciousness. This survey is designed to chronologically grasp some aspects of people's lives and their consciousness. Research has been conducted twice (in 1995 and 1997), and this is the third research. Characteristics of this survey can been seen in survey items such as family life, community design, work life, consumption life, silver life, risk management in life. |

Questionnaire items: (1) Health: current health condition; tips to maintain health. (2) husband/wife relationship, family relationship and children's education: marital status; household work with which husband helps; manner in which husband shares in household work; consciousness in sharing of domestic labor between men and women; ideas and thoughts on different forms of family; number of children and their age; sex of the oldest child; parents' role for the oldest child; worries about the education of the oldest child; ideas and thoughts on the way education should be; places suitable for children's education and socialization. (3) community: ordinary relationship with the neighbors; people with whom you interact in the neighborhood; number of friends; people with whom you wish to deepen the relationship; what you ordinary do in the community; interest in community and social activities and consciousness in participation; participation in group and organizational activities; group and organizational activities you wish to participate in the future; reasons for participating in the activities you currently participate and reasons for wanting to participate in some other activities in the future; consciousness in different groups. (4) consumption life: extent to which you have free time in ordinary days and financial affluence; things you want to spend money on, if becoming affluent; consciousness in consumption and actual consumption; things you are eager to spend money on; storage space in the house; value of life (10 question items); social values. (5) labor: experiences of changing jobs and consciousness in starting an independent business; current occupation; type of your employer and size of the company; atmosphere of current company/office; desirable company/office; career you aim to pursue; satisfaction with your workplace; knowledge usable in different companies; knowledge and skill you wish to attain; preference for work until retirement and reasons for not being able to work until retirement; salary system of your company; ideas and thoughts on salary based on achievement and capability; preferable salary system; preparation for unemployment and decline of salary. (6) advanced age life and nursing: desirable employment condition; age at which you wish to retire; what you currently do on weekends and holiday, what you would like to do on weekends and holiday in your advanced age; center of life in your advanced age; experience of nursing; family members who needs nursing; way of nursing; difficulties in nursing; your ideas and thoughts on future nursing (way of nursing for your parents and spouse, your desirable way of nursing); questions regarding the preparation for one's advanced age; preferred type of housing in your advanced age.
