Summary In consideration of how best to implement mechanisms to empower women through maintaining a work–life balance it has become important to understand the issue of modes of employee management, allowing working women to have a clear awareness of their own career and work life course, thereby enhancing their work.

This survey aims at understanding current realities of men and women in managerial positions, measures they take to balance work and family, their experience of significant growth as professionals, their self-assessment of job performance abilities required for managerial positions, and situations where those abilities are acquired. The purpose of this survey is to inform female workers aiming for managerial positions.
Data Type quantitative research: micro data
Universe Men and women in managerial positions working for approximately 3,700 companies, including companies listed in the regular and over-the-counter stock exchanges of Tokyo, Osaka, and Nagoya, as well as life insurance and non-life insurance companies (staff with one or more subordinates and staff at the sub-section head (kakaricho) level or above)

Self-assessment and acquisition of job-related skills, work experience perceived to have contributed to personal development and things learned and gained as a result, experience of overcoming major difficulties and lessons learned as a result, influence of supervisors and knowledge acquired from supervisors, rewarding aspects of work/whether feeling satisfied with work and why, work-related worries and stress, reason for working, ways of balancing work and personal life, sharing housework and childrearing duties with spouse, husband's attitude toward wife working, etc.
