Summary
|
The Japan Finance Corporation Research Institute has been conducting surveys in consideration of various viewpoints since 1969 in order to clarify the actual situation of new business start-ups, and since 1991, these survey results have been published annually as the "White Paper on New Business Start-ups." As of 2000, the survey excluded the real estate rental industry. All chronological data have been recounted to exclude real estate rental businesses.
As is clear from the Surveys on State of New Business Start-ups that have been conducted to date, the percentage of entrepreneurs in their 50s has been increasing since the latter half of the 1990s. As the number of newly-opened companies in Japan is growing sluggishly, people in their 50s are becoming an important generation regarding undertaking entrepreneurship.
Therefore, this survey was conducted with the aim of understanding the background of the increasing number of entrepreneurs in their 50s and their characteristics, and also to explore people’s image of entrepreneurs in their 50s today.
