Summary This survey was conducted with the aim of continuously investigating and clarifying the evaluation and sentiment of quality of life, including subjective level of happiness and its supporting factors.

This survey, conducted in March 2012, was designed to cover many survey items on the evaluation of quality of life, ranging from topics such as subjective feeling of happiness and level of life satisfaction to evaluation of anxiety and public security.

Major Survey Items (1) Face items: gender, age, marital status, family relationships, number of people in the household, number of children, employment status, highest level of educational attainment, annual household income, annual personal income, pension/insurance/social security benefits, damage from the Great East Japan Earthquake
 
(2) Feeling of happiness/level of life satisfaction: current level of happiness of respondent/cohabiting family members, expectation of level of happiness in five years, feelings in general, feelings in the past few weeks, evaluation of time allocation per weekday

(3) Economic situation and its subjective evaluation: difficulty in managing monthly living expenses, level of burden of home loan payments/utility expenses, etc., things respondent is unable to do for economic reasons 

(4) Residential environment: type of residence, number of years residing at current address, dissatisfaction with environment of area of residence, access to various facilities in area of residence 

(5) Subjective health/anxiety/public security: current health conditions, current and future anxieties about life, level of safety respondent feels when walking alone at night 

(6) Support from people around/social contact: area of residence of parents/relatives, frequency of contact with non-cohabiting family members, assistance usually received from people around, family/relatives/friends/neighbors who provide respondent with support and care, family/relatives that respondent supports or takes care of
