Summary This is an attitudes survey conducted in March 2012 by the Meiji Yasuda Corp. Lifestyle Welfare Research Institute targeting men between the ages of 20–64. The survey is primarily concerned with attitudes toward happiness.

The main contents are as follows.

Type (social, liking to spend time alone, etc.), the one which you prefer (living your own life/contributing to society, work/private life, high salary/worthwhile work)

(2) Feeling of happiness/degree of satisfaction
・Feeling of happiness
Period of life where you were the happiest/the degree of happiness at that time (out of 10), current happiness level (out of 10), times in your childhood/middle school years/high school years where you felt like you were happy, what man's happiness is, times you feel happy in your everyday life, things necessary for happiness

・Degree of satisfaction
Dreams for your future you had when you were a child/whether or not they were fulfilled, pluses/minuses to having been born as a man, whether or not you would like to be a man if you were to be reborn

(3) Daily life/family, birth/child-rearing, etc.
・Daily life/family
Time you spend with your spouse on holidays, time you get off work, time you return home on work days, ideal time you'd like to get home, person you eat dinner with, number of days in a week you eat dinner with your spouse, level of satisfaction with your wife, reasons you are satisfied, reasons you are unsatisfied, whether you drink alcohol/frequency of drinking/type/alcohol preferences, in what type of situations you like to drink

・Birth/child-rearing
Thoughts on having children, number of children you want, reasons you do or do not want children, degree of involvement you have with childrearing/reasons you do not participate in childrearing, whether childrearing is (or was) fun for you/reasons thereof, whether you received childcare leave/period of time, whether you would like to receive childcare leave, reasons you did not or could not receive childcare leave, things necessary for smooth parenting

・Leisure/holidays
Number of days per week you use the internet, SNS you are registered to/the frequency with which you use them, things you do with your money on holidays, things you do with your money on days you have work or after work, things you desire to enrich your after-work hours, what you would do if you had a month off work, hobbies/primary hobby

(4) Work
・About work
Objectives of your work/primary objective, ideal manner of work for women's life stage

・Regarding current work
Whether you are satisfied with your current work/details, things you are uneasy about at work, how long you want to continue your current line of work, things you will be dissatisfied about after retiring, how high would you like to be promoted, whether you would like to be a full time employee, reasons for not wanting to be a full-time employee, self-evaluation of your degree of effort paid towards your work (on a scale of 1–10)

(5) Love/marriage
・Experiences with love/marriage
How you met your current wife/partner (koibito), things that make you glad you married and the reasons thereof, things you are currently doing or once did to find a spouse to marry (participation in workplace events, etc./matchmaking, etc.), whether or not you have considered divorce

・Thoughts on marriage
Whether you think that men "should eventually get married," whether you think that love and marriage are different, whether you believe the household should be prioritized if you are married, reasons you "want to marry," reasons you do not think you "want to marry," thoughts on spouses retaining different surnames, reasons spouses retaining different surnames would be a good idea

・Thoughts on your partner
Normative consciousness about behavior of married people, what you want from your ideal partner (koibito)/what you want from your ideal wife

(6) Relationship with parents
Relationship you have with your parents/your wife's parents (very good/normal, etc.), reasons your relationship is good with your parents (own parents/spouse's parents), things your or your wife's parents did for you in the last three years that made you happy, your parents' occupations when you were in elementary school to high school, sort of attitudes your parents approached parenting with

(7) Worries/anxieties
Current worries/future anxieties, people you consult about your worries, number of friends with whom you can talk about anything/their attributes

(8) Views on the future
Future goals, things you are doing right now for your future goals/how much you spend on them monthly/reasons you are not doing anything, qualifications you aim to obtain

(9) Health
Mental and physical health/reasons you responded with "slightly unwell"/"unwell," things you are doing for your health/things you are resolved to do, times you normally go to bed and wake up

(10) Savings and preparations for the future
・Monetary preparation
Whether you have prepared any money for when you get older/type thereof (savings/individual annuity through a life insurance company, etc.), between you and your spouse, the person in charge of planning/executing monetary preparations for old age, amount saved per month, thoughts on monetary preparation for old age, preparation for lifestyle in old age (other than money)

・Care work
Familial experience with care work, who would primarily care for you should you need it, who would primarily care for your wife should she need it, things you are anxious about if your relatives end up needing care, things you are anxious about if you end up needing care, thoughts on public long-term care insurance and private nursing care products
