Summary Facing aging society in the immediate future, to build a society where everyone can live a long and fulfilling life, there needs to be constant re-evaluation of social systems related to employment/income, health/welfare, learning/social participation, and the living environment to make these suited to the aging society.

It has been the viewpoint of this survey, also conducted in 1988, 1993, 1998, 2003, and 2008 for the purpose of contributing to the promotion of future measures for the aging society through understanding attitudes of the elderly toward participation in local community. The 2003 survey is available under survey number 0643.

The main survey items are (1) matters related to attitude to daily life, (2) matters related to thoughts on social participation activities, (3) matters related to thoughts on community activities, (4) matters related to intention to interact with other generations, and (5) matters related to policies and support measures for the elderly.
