Summary In 2004, the Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO) introduced the "Repayment Exemption System for Particularly Excellent Academic Performance" targeting students who received a first-class scholarship at the graduate school level and made particularly outstanding achievements during their studies.

This survey was conducted in order to understand the career paths of those who were certified for this repayment exemption.

-Numbers of employed recipients, enrolled students A, enrolled students B, and unemployed recipients
*Employed recipients must have been currently employed, regardless of whether full-time or part-time employment. Enrolled students A must have been enrolled in a different program or school after completing the program for which he/she received a waiver of repayment. Enrolled students B must have been enrolled in the same program for which he/she received a waiver of repayment. Unemployed students included postdoctoral fellows, doctoral degree holders without a job or position, and those who were preparing for employment, and were not included among the employed students and enrolled students A and B.
