Summary This research project investigated children's living and learning situations and guardians' child-rearing situations over several years and clarified how these change as children grow up. This will enable us to grasp the current situation and issues in children's lives, learning, and child-rearing and examine how to provide better ways for education and child-rearing.
 This research project is characterized by the following three points: (1) Because the survey is conducted continuously every year, it is possible to capture the "presence" and "changing times" of the first grade of elementary school through the third grade of high school. (2) Because the same children and their guardians are continuously surveyed, the "growth and development" process of guardians and children can be captured. (3) The survey provides a broad and detailed picture of children's attitudes and actual conditions related to their lives and learning.
 This survey is the Wave 6 (2020 Base Survey) of the parent-child survey on children's life and learning.

Parent-child survey Wave 1: "Survey panels" were recruited from February 2014 to May 2015 for "survey panel recruitment targets" selected from a list of first-grade elementary school students to third-grade high school students nationwide, according to the ratio of children and students in seven regions of Japan (Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology "Basic School Survey" 2013-2014).
Parent-child survey Wave 2: Questionnaires were distributed to the same "survey panels" as in Wave 1. However, as in Wave 1, first-grade elementary school students were selected according to the proportion of first-grade students in seven regions of Japan and added to the "survey panels.”
Parent-child survey Wave 3: Questionnaires were distributed to "survey panels" who had responded to at least one of Wave 1 or Wave 2, and, as in Wave 1 and Wave 2, first-grade elementary school students were added to the "survey panels”.
Parent-child survey Wave 4 and after: As in Wave 1 and Wave 2, first-grade elementary school students are added to the "survey panels" every year.
