Summary
|
The Japanese Panel Study of Employment Dynamics (JPSED) is an annual follow-up survey of the employment status, income, and work conditions of individuals during the year prior to the survey. The purpose of the JPSED is to compile and publish the Works Index and to grasp the actual status of employment and non-employment in Japan and its changes. The purpose of the Japanese Panel Study of Employment Dynamics is to track the employment status, income, and work status of individuals during the year prior to the survey and to compile and publish a Works Index. This survey is intended to clarify the actual status of job change activities among workers and to make recommendations to society on how to improve the quality of work styles by conducting an additional survey of men and women aged 15 and older who have changed jobs or intend to change jobs since 2018 in the primary survey conducted in January 2023. The number of responses was 55,807 cases.
Starting with the 2018 survey, there are three types of respondents: continuing sample (respondents from last year), additional sample (new respondents from this year), and resurrected sample (respondents from surveys before 2021 who did not respond to the 2022 survey).
Continuing sample: 42,643 (number of questionnaires sent: 54,209, response rate: 78.7%)
Additional sample: 9,204 (number of questionnaires sent: 19,117, response rate: 48.1%)
Resurrection sample: 3,960 (number of questionnaires sent: 27,204, response rate: 14.6%)
*Fourteen of the above samples were excluded from this year's survey because they had emigrated overseas.

The data from the "Labor Force Survey" of the Statistics Bureau of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications were used to make allocations by gender, age, class strata, employment status, regional block, and educational background. The allocation was set to reflect the population. However, the non-working population of teenagers and those aged 70 and over were allocated smaller numbers than in reality. Specifically, the allocation was as follows.
Gender: male/female
Age: 15-19/20-24/25-34/35-44/45-54/55-64/65-69/70-74/75 and over
Employment status: labor force/non-labor force
Employment status: self-employed workers/family employees/officers/full-time/non-full-time/unemployed
Academic background: less than a college graduate/above a college graduate/currently enrolled in school
Residence: 11 areas: Hokkaido /Tohoku /South Kanto /North Kanto and Koshin /Hokuriku /Tokai /Kinki /Chugoku /Shikoku /Kyushu /Okinawa
Weighting is conducted so that the composition of gender, age, employment status, and education reflects the population.
The report includes the results after weighting (the number of persons after weighting is 55,801).

When connecting up to the 8th survey and conducting a panel analysis using only continuing respondents, a separate application for data on weights (SSJDA1599), adjusted for continuation probability prediction and dropout is required. The weight data are particular data from the viewpoint of confidentiality.
