Summary
|
Junior high school students are at a sensitive age, and it is difficult to teach them. They rebel, ignore others, and fail to listen. How can teachers guide these students? Considering the trend of adopting individual instead of group instruction, this survey attempted to understand teachers through students’ eyes.
Analysis of the survey results aimed to identify the characteristics of homeroom teachers that meet students' expectations as well as those of the ideal teachers for junior high school students. Therefore, the survey items related to students’ evaluation of their homeroom teachers. It was difficult to find teachers who would cooperate with the survey; many refused, but ultimately, a total of 31 teachers participated.

Individual samples were collected through referrals from fellow teachers and acquaintances.

Mode of Data Collection
|
Questionnaire survey administered through schools. As homeroom teachers collected their classes’ completed questionnaires, care was taken to ensure that each questionnaire was placed in its own envelope, sealed by the students themselves after completion, and collected indiscriminately in large envelopes (one for each class) so that students could complete the questionnaires honestly.

Subject taught, teacher’s gender, homeroom teacher’s enthusiasm, whether the respondent has opportunities to talk with the homeroom teacher personally, number of hours of homeroom teacher's class per week, extent of the homeroom teacher’s knowledge about the respondent, respondent’s contact with the homeroom teacher, changes in the respondent since being assigned to the current homeroom teacher, how the respondent has observed the homeroom teacher treating students, whether the respondent trusts the homeroom teacher, respondent’s satisfaction with the homeroom teacher, whether the respondent intends to invite the homeroom teacher to their wedding, grading of homeroom teacher
