Summary Japan's employment and occupational world have entered a period of great transformation toward the 21st century. In particular, the Japanese way of working has been criticized from various quarters, and is now under scrutiny for reconsideration. This survey attempts to pinpoint the direction of such a change in the occupational world by focusing on the relations between occupation and home life. In doing so, it clarifies the current state of people's occupational careers and families and other systems to support them. While the survey represents the third and latest in a series entitled the Survey on the Occupational Mobility and Careers, it specifically deals with the home-occupation relationships and is directed to men, women, and their spouses.
