Summary
|
Targeting households that were issued a "national education loan," this survey has been conducted since 1993 under the title "Survey on Educational Expenditure and Household Budget." Until 2003, it was compiled as the "Survey on Household Budgets among Families with Pre-college Students," but since the 2004 survey, it became the "fact-finding survey on household educational expenses." The main purpose of this survey was to clarify not only the actual state of the educational cost burdens borne by households with students, but also those households’ income, home loan status, and methods of raising funds to cover educational costs. This survey also investigated the overall state of households and the relationship between general household costs and education-related costs.
The characteristics of this survey were that it (1) targeted households nationwide (working households), (2) targeted only households with students, (3) captured educational expenses throughout the year, and (4) clarified the status of educational expense-related burdens by classification based on the number of children enrolled in school, the type of school attended, and the presence or absence of children living away from home to go to school.
