Summary
|
Cases of foreign workers being employed by small and medium sized businesses are becoming more common. This is not just because of the decline in the working age population; it is also a result of the internationalization of the operations of small and medium sized businesses such as international expansion and the ability to handle visitors to Japan. While foreign workers may have been brought in to counter labor shortages, they have also become essential to growth and business development.
In this context, this survey was carried out by the Japan Finance Corporation Research Institute for the purpose of clarifying the role that foreign workers (excluding special permanent residents) play in small and medium-sized businesses, focusing on businesses in regions and occupation types where there are many foreign workers.
