Summary This dataset comes from the survey on international students' career and survey on academic degrees. Questions relating to the state of degree conferment only apply to universities with graduate schools. The Survey on International Students' Career investigates the future pathways of international students who graduated (or completed studies) in the 2015 academic year (April 1, 2015 to March 31, 2016). The Survey on International Students' Academic Degrees investigates international students who received a degree from a Japanese graduate school in the 2015 academic year (April 1, 2015 to March 31, 2016).

The survey on students' career investigates the number of international students that pursued each pathway, by country and type of funding (public/private). The academic degree survey targets only graduate schools and investigates considerations made for the conferment of degrees and the number of degrees conferred for private/publicly-funded students ((1) Masters course, early stage doctoral course, (2) Doctoral course, late stage doctoral course, (3) Doctoral courses in medicine, dentistry, and veterinary medicine, (4) 5-year doctoral course and other combined doctoral programs, (5) Professional degree course (law school), (6) Professional degree course (other than law school).
