Summary The family’s educational ability is said to have declined, but is this really so? The purpose of this study was to clarify the extent to which basic lifestyle habits are formed in children and how parents and teachers discipline them.

Based on the results of a 1982 survey entitled "Basic Lifestyle Habits" (Monographs for Elementary School Students Now vols. 2–9), this report explores the degree to which children today have established basic lifestyle habits and the discipline patterns that mothers, in particular, use at home.
