Summary Children learn various things while growing up and accumulate various experiences in their families, schools, and local communities. However, in recent years, children's living space has narrowed due to the decrease in the number of playgrounds and the collapse of local play groups, effectively reducing children’s direct experiences. This study attempted to analyze the actual situation and meaning of children's experiences from various perspectives through a nationwide survey.

Survey items were highly detailed; they attempted to ascertain children’s experiences in the 10 domains of "living," "helping," "playing," "nature," "human relations," "mechanics/media," "studying," "culture," "emotion," and "illness/injury," as well as regional differences between urban and county areas, the impact of various experiences on children's self-image and future prospects, and the factors that influence children's experiences.
