Summary   Which aspects of children’s lives should we pay attention to ensure that modern children, who are growing up in the era of electronic media, develop healthily, without being overwhelmed by it? This survey was conducted to determine how the emergence of electronic media, especially video games and computers, is changing children’s world. The results are expected to inform teachers and parents as to the ideal environment they should provide for their children.

The main survey content is as follows: the actual state of children's ownership and use of electronic media, whether children who are interested in video games are also interested in computers, whether there is a gendered difference in people’s ability to use computers and other machines, whether familiarity with media diminishes children’s interpersonal skills and lessens their interest in nature, and whether children's interest in and ability to use media are affected by their home and school environments.
Additionally, each class profile was surveyed separately.

This survey obtained samples from both elementary schools that are actively promoting media education and normal elementary schools that are not actively promoting media education.
