Summary With the advent of the information society, children’s learning environment has changed. Consequently, schools have been forced to shift from knowledge transmission sites to a place where students are encouraged to think about how to solve problems. In this sense, the introduction of the 5-day school week should be an opportunity to reconsider the nature of schooling. Against this background, this survey was administered to junior high school students and teachers to clarify the actual conditions revealing how they spend their Saturday holidays, as well as their evaluation and the problems they face. Administered on July 10, the survey items asked about subjects' behavior on July 8 (the second Saturday of the month), 3 months after the implementation of the bi-monthly 5-day school week.
