Summary  The survey in the monograph tends to be biased toward the Tokyo area. In an information society, where regional differences are eliminated and school differences are minimized, it is likely that there will be similar schools and similar junior high school students everywhere. However, this is only a superficial view, and there may be considerable differences in students’ minds.
 Therefore, we conducted a survey to determine the extent to which regional and school differences are reflected in the behavior and awareness of junior high school students.
 However, a large-scale, rigorous examination will be left for another time; here, we attempted to ascertain the extent to which junior high school students’ behaviors and attitudes vary by region and school and the extent to which they are common.

Universe First- to third-year junior high school students in Akita, Tokyo, Shizuoka, Shimane, and Kyushu.

Sampling Procedure We asked study group faculty members to recommend schools where they are familiar with the community and schooling situations and can obtain cooperation, and ultimately, 6 schools cooperated: 1) a school on an island in Kyushu, 2) a school in the suburbs of a traditional small city on the coast of the Sea of Japan, 3) a school facing the Pacific Ocean in Shizuoka Prefecture, 4) a school in downtown Tokyo, 5) a school in a new town in Tokyo that is dedicated to education, and 6) a school in an old town in Tohoku.

 Whether the respondent cohabitates with their grandparents, number of siblings, number of family members, whether the respondent sees their parents at work, respondent’s relationship with their parents, respondent’s evaluation of their parents
