| Summary | One year has past since the Equal Employment Opportunity Law was amended. The original EEO Law only imposed a moral duty on employers to endeavor to treat women equally to men, where as the amended law prohibited discriminatory treatment against women in all stages of employment. This survey was conducted by the request of the Ministry of Labor to find out the working situation of women in the career track of an enterprise and how these women view their work life. At the same time, the survey aims to search the situation regarding recruitment and hiring of the students who would prospectively graduate from college in March 2000, and look into whether enterprises have made changes in their recruitment and hiring to abide by the amended EEO Law. |

Two survey sheets were used, one for the enterprises and one for individuals. [Survey of enterprises] 1) Demographics of the enterprises: name of the enterprise; location; main business or main products; number of employees regularly hired; division to which the person answering the survey belong. 2) Hiring Situation of the College Graduates: number of college graduates of March 1999 and prospective college graduates of March 2000 the enterprises recruited, actual number of people the enterprises hired (total number and the number of women). 3) Separation of Career/non-career tracks: whether there are two tracks; number of women hired into the career track each year and number of women in the career track who quit working; number of women hired into each division; number of managers (total of men and women, women, women in the career track); ways to utilize women in the career track. 4) Changes made due to the amendment of the EEO Law: revision of employee management system, things being changed (15 items).
