Summary This survey asked university administrative staff nationwide about their work, career plans, and the actualities and attitudes thereof. It aims to examine the nature of the university administrative organization for the future of university management.

Extraction and selection of subjects were accomplished as follows.
At our targeted universities and departments, we distributed materials to subjects randomly selected based on mailed distribution manuals.
At each university, ten administrative staff from the main office and five from departmental offices received the materials.
Main office: 737 universities * 10 = 7,370 people
Departmental office: 2,055 departments * 5 = 10,275 people
Total: 17,645 (distribution amount)

Postal survey (self-administered survey, distributed and collected by postal mail)
