| Summary |
Among students who entered a university, the number of students enrolled by recommendation has been increasing year by year since 1997, and in 2002, 40 percent of incoming students to private universities were accepted by recommendation Since 1993, the Japan Finance Corporation Research Institute has been conducting a "Fact-finding survey on educational expenses in households" (this is the published name; the official name is "Survey on Household Budgets among Families with Pre-college Students"), which is conducted in June of every year. However, this time, we focused on enrollment by recommendation and investigated the actual situation and burden of educational expenses. |

Questionnaires were sent directly to the target households and collected directly by mail. Responses from the households that selected "1 General entrance examination" for "Q9: What type of entrance examination did you take at the school you plan to enter?" were excluded. |
